Privacy Policy & Terms of Use

Last updated: July 12, 2026 · Thriftcom.com

Privacy Policy

Thriftcom.com ("Thriftcom," "we," "us") is a nationwide online marketplace that helps people buy and sell secondhand goods, organized by city. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run the marketplace, your email is never shown publicly, and we do not sell your personal information.

Information We Collect

  • Seller account information: when you create an account we collect your public username, email address, password (stored in encrypted form by our authentication provider — we never see it), and the city you select.
  • Listing content: item titles, descriptions, prices, categories, photos you upload, the city where the item is located, and any links you provide to your listings on other platforms (such as Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, eBay, or Poshmark).
  • Communications: emails we exchange with you, including listing confirmations and status notifications.
  • Usage and log data: like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically record technical data such as IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited, used for security and to keep the service running.
  • Payment information (when on-platform payments launch): payments will be processed by Stripe, a leading payment processor. Card numbers and bank details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on Thriftcom's servers. We receive only what is needed to operate the marketplace, such as transaction status and payout records.

What Is Public

Your listings (title, description, price, photos, category, condition, city, and any ad links you add) and your username are visible to anyone browsing Thriftcom. Your email address, password, and contact details are never displayed publicly.

How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the marketplace: publishing approved listings, organizing them by city, and letting you manage them from your Seller Dashboard.
  • To review listings before they go live and to keep the platform free of spam, fraud, and prohibited items.
  • To send transactional emails: submission confirmations, approval notifications, password resets, and important account or service notices.
  • To process payments and payouts through Stripe once on-platform checkout is available.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run Thriftcom — including our database and authentication provider (Supabase), email delivery provider (Resend), website hosting provider, content delivery networks, and payment processor (Stripe) — and when required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transfer such as a sale of the platform. Each provider receives only what it needs to perform its role.

Cookies & Local Storage

Thriftcom uses browser local storage to keep sellers and administrators signed in. Our hosting and analytics providers may set standard cookies to measure site performance. We do not use cross-site advertising trackers.

Data Retention & Security

We keep account and listing data while your account is active and as needed to run the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted password storage, and database access rules that restrict who can read and change data. No online service can guarantee perfect security, so please use a strong, unique password.

Your Choices & Rights

  • You can view and edit your listings and username anytime from your Seller Dashboard.
  • You can request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete your account and personal information, by emailing contact@thriftcom.com. We will respond within 30 days.
  • Residents of certain states (including California and Texas) may have additional privacy rights under state law; contact us to exercise them.

Children

Thriftcom is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify account holders by email.

Terms of Use

By using Thriftcom.com you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. What Thriftcom Is

Thriftcom is a venue that connects local buyers and sellers of secondhand goods. Listings may also link to a seller's advertisements on third-party platforms. Unless a purchase is completed through Thriftcom's own checkout (see Section 5), all transactions are conducted directly between buyer and seller, and Thriftcom is not a party to them.

2. Eligibility & Accounts

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or sell on Thriftcom.
  • You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • One account per person. Usernames that impersonate others or are offensive may be changed or removed.

3. Listings & Seller Responsibilities

  • You may only list items you own and have the right to sell, described accurately, with photos of the actual item where provided.
  • Prohibited: illegal items, stolen goods, counterfeits or replicas sold as authentic, recalled products, weapons and ammunition, prescription drugs, alcohol, tobacco, live animals, adult content, hazardous materials, and anything that violates the law or the rights of others.
  • All listings are reviewed before publication. We may approve, reject, edit, or remove any listing, and suspend or ban any account, at our discretion — especially for spam, fraud, or prohibited items.
  • Links to your ads on other platforms are provided by you; those platforms have their own terms, and we are not responsible for content or transactions on them.

4. Buyer Responsibilities

Inspect items and ask questions before you buy. Meet sellers in safe public places for local pickups. Unless a purchase is made through Thriftcom checkout, payment arrangements, condition, and any returns are strictly between you and the seller.

5. Payments & Platform Fee (applies when Thriftcom checkout is available)

  • On-platform purchases are processed by Stripe. Sellers who wish to receive payments through Thriftcom must complete Stripe's onboarding, including any identity verification Stripe requires.
  • Thriftcom deducts a platform fee of 8% of the item's sale price from the seller's proceeds on each completed on-platform sale. The remainder, less any payment-processing costs disclosed at onboarding, is paid out to the seller's connected account. The current fee will always be shown to sellers before they list or accept an on-platform sale.
  • Sellers are responsible for any taxes on their sales. Thriftcom will provide transaction records where required.
  • Refunds and disputes on on-platform purchases are handled according to the refund policy published at checkout; chargebacks are administered through Stripe.

6. Content License

You own the content you post. By posting, you grant Thriftcom a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and promote your listings on and in connection with the service (for example, in city feeds, category pages, and social posts promoting the marketplace).

7. Intellectual Property Complaints

If you believe content on Thriftcom infringes your copyright or trademark, email contact@thriftcom.com with the listing link, a description of the work infringed, your contact information, and a statement of good-faith belief. We will review and remove infringing content promptly.

8. Disclaimers

Thriftcom is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not inspect items, guarantee the accuracy of listings, or vouch for any buyer or seller. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thriftcom and its owners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, arising from your use of the service or any transaction between users. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the greater of $100 or the platform fees you paid us in the six months before the claim.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold Thriftcom harmless from claims arising out of your listings, your transactions, or your violation of these terms or any law.

11. Termination

You may stop using Thriftcom at any time and may request account deletion. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Sections 6–12 survive termination.

12. Governing Law & Changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. We may update these terms from time to time; material changes will be reflected in the date above and, where appropriate, notified by email. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
